Retinal photos and OCT

Using the latest technology, we can image the eye in ways to detect diseases such as glaucoma and macular degeneration, even in their early stages.

Retinal photography and optical coherence tomography (OCT) provide invaluable information about your eyes, and we utilize them as a part of every eye exam.

DNEye Scanner

This revolutionary machine from German lens manufacturer, Rodenstock, measures over 7000 points across your eye and integrates that data in your lenses to yield the sharpest vision possible. This is data that has previously been unmeasureable, but Rodenstock has found a way to utilize it to reduce blur and distortions that are found in traditional lenses. Truly tailor-made -- for your eyes only.

Early detection is critical to prevent vision loss with glaucoma, a disease that takes away peripheral vision. We are now able to detect glaucoma in its early stages and can measure the amount of healthy tissue at each visit to watch for any changes.

If an immediate family member has glaucoma, you have a 25% chance of developing the disease as well.  Unfortunately, most people don’t realise they’ve got glaucoma until it’s too late. So even if you think you’ve got the “best peripheral vision on the block”, it’s not going to hurt to get tested!

Everyone knows someone that has it, and yep, it’s not fun. Macular degeneration is a disease that takes away your central vision. Using advanced imaging we can detect macular degeneration before it has caused any visual problems. If an immediate family member has macular degeneration, you are 3-4 times more likely to develop the disease as well.

Certain types of macular degeneration have treatment options, and we can accurately detect when the disease is present and when treatment may be necessary.

Dry eye assessment
Gritty, stinging, burning, watery, and just downright uncomfortable. These are just a few ways people with dry eyes describe how their eyes feel (yes, even watery!) Proper diagnosis and emphasis on the root of a dry eye problem can help get you back on track, and it can often be quite simple. Once we figure out the problem, we can use the latest in dry eye treatment products to figure out the solution.

“I can’t have contacts because I have astigmatism, my eyes are shaped funny.” Not true.

“But I need glasses for distance AND reading, surely I can’t wear contacts.” Wrong again!

Contact lenses are great alternative to glasses! Despite what you may have been told in the past, there’s usually an option for contact lenses for most people, including multifocal contacts! Lenses are so soft now that most people can’t even tell they’re wearing them. Come and see us to try the best lenses on the market to allow maximum breathability to keep your eyes happy and out of glasses.

Are you or your child short-sighted? Does the prescription always seem to be getting worse each year? If so, we can help by utilizing the latest research to try and reduce the progression of myopia (aka. short sightedness/near-sightedness).

This is important not only to maintain clear vision, but to prevent associated problems that can develop within the eyes with high levels of myopia. Current treatment methods involve the use of contact lenses, special eyeglasses such as the Hoya Miyosmart, or can be as simple as using eyedrops before bedtime.

Children's eye exams (any age!)
Even if they can’t talk yet, or read their ABC’s, bring them in!  We’re happy to see children of any age (even if only a few months old), and clear vision is critical to their ability to learn.

We can use our equipment to determine the strength of their eyes and if they need glasses or not.  We also have special equipment and techniques to look inside the eye to assess the health, and can diagnose eye conditions that may be causing problems with reading and schoolwork.

Cataract assessment
Not to be confused with Cadillacs, cataracts are a clouding of the natural lens within the eye. Having a cataract is like looking through a smudge on your windscreen. This may reduce your vision and surgery may be appropriate when it gets bad enough.  Cataracts are easy for us to detect, and we can get you in touch with a great surgeon when needed.
